Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid are ingredients that are used in topical treatment of skin problems. However,  treating moderate to severe acne is the most popular use of these ingredients.
Products containing Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid are effective in clearing and controlling acne.
But which one is better at clearing acne without effecting or harming the quality of our natural skin?
Which one treats acne gently yet effectively ??
Lets find out !

Benzoyl peroxide works as a peeling agent. It increases skin turnover, clearing pores and reducing the bacterial count (specifically P. acnes) as well as acting directly as an antimicrobial.
Benzoyl peroxide for acne treatment is typically applied to the affected areas in gel or cream form, in concentrations of 2.5% increasing through 5%, and up to 10%. Research suggests that 5% and 10% concentrations are slightly more effective than 2.5%, while 2.5% is usually better tolerated, though the majority of major studies comparing it to other treatments use the higher concentrations. Benzoyl peroxide basically removes the layer of skin that contains dead cells which clears pores and reduces blackheads, whiteheads and oil deposit. The most common reason for acne is oil deposit in the skin which increases the accumulation of bacteria. Therefore, severe acne problems are mostly faced by the people with oily skin. Benzoyl kills bacteria and dries out existing blemishes. This ingredient works a lot like  Glycolic acid   but unlike Glycolic acid,it makes the skin a lot more sensitive after use since the the upper layer of the skin is no more there to protect your skin from the sun or other harmful elements.
Benzoyl Peroxide products may dry up your skin after consecutive use.
This ingredient also has a mild bleaching effect therefore, use of this product near eyebrows and other such areas should be avoided.

Salicylic acid is a Beta hydroxy acid derived from willow bark. Beta hydroxy acid (BHA)
is a mild acid and has a slightly different chemical structure. This structure is used in95%
of the over-the counter products for acne.Salicylic acid is a little more drying and works best
on oily or acne prone skin.Salicylic acid molecular structutre is large and cannot penetrate
deep in the cells and therefore cannot stimulate action in the dermis (lower layer of skin) to
produce collagen and elastin. It is not recommended
for dry, sensitive or normal skin types.Topical salicylic acid treats acne by reducing swelling and redness and unplugging blocked skin pores to allow pimples to shrink. It treats other skin conditions by softening and loosening dry, scaly, or thickened skin so that it falls off or can be removed easily. It is not recommended
for dry or sensitive.

Verdict : Both the mentioned ingredients are very effective on acne prone skin. Benzoyl is harsher and more aggressive on skin compared to salicylic acid.

I personally recommend Benzoyl Peroxide products for people suffering from severe acne and blemishes.
and Salicylic Acid products if you have oily acne prone skin like mine because it helps control oil secretion from skin and cleans out pores, reducing acne and acne related problems.

All the Best !!
