Microdermabrasion : My experience !

Microdermabrasion is one of the most popular services done at skin care clinics and medspas,performed by dermatologists or trained,certified,licensed aestheticians. 

What is Microdermabrasion ? : It is an advanced exfoliating treatment that can improve the skin on your
                                                     face.
  
How does Microdermabrasion work ? :  It uses tiny grains(aluminum oxide\diamond crystals) to buff
                                                                   away the surface layer of the skin.

The Microdermabrasion machines may vary in size, shape etc but the one used to treat my skin by my aesthetician looked a lot like the one in this picture.

 Effects of Microdermabrasion : Visible improvement in sun damaged skin, hyperpigmentation,
                                                       skin becomes smoother,lightens acne scars, large pores can appear
                                                       smaller,skin appears plumper and tighter,treats blackheads, whiteheads
                                                       and oily skin.

My Experience : So i took an appointment from my dermatologist on thursday for a
                             microdermabrasion session. I have only had about 2 skin treatments done in my entire                                  life, i never go for facials or any other skin treatments that the local spas and salons offer.
                             The idea of microdermabrasion always sounded appealing to me.
                             The treatment started out with cleansing my face with a gentle cleansing lotion to remove   any makeup or dirt from the skin, followed by hydrating the skin by applying hydrating lotion and leaving it on skin for a few minutes. After that, the aesthetician let me know that she is about to start the process, using the pen like suction rode she began, and said to me that she will stop if i feel discomfort at any point of time during the treatment, hmm...that made feel a little nervous, i was just hoping there is no pain involved because im a sook when it comes to pain. She started off from the top of my hairline and i was like "this is it ??" it was similar to the feeling of a cat licking your face. After the treatment,my face was pink, specially my cheeks.She then applied a lotion on my face which was quite cold,maybe to relax the treated skin. After about 10 minutes,she wiped it off with a wet sponge and wiped it dry with a paper towel. She gave me an ointment called Sofradex (which is also prescribed to be used after chemical peels) to apply on my face and then a sunscreen lotion. She prescribed the same cream\ointment to be applied at night for 3 days.  It is suggested to not apply any makeup or use any soap or face washes on the treated skin for at least 3 days to recieve best results.

Would I Recommend It ? : I will definitely recommend it to all those who want to take care of their skin and people with any kind of imperfections like visible sun damage,acne scares,dull skin,fine lines etc. 


Price :   It can range from 2000 INR to 8000 INR or more ($80-$100) per session (only face) depending on the place you go to and whether it is performed by a dermatologist or beauty therapist. There are always deals and offers on websites such as groupon , mydala etc but always research about the place you decide to go to.
